NBIRT Arkaneer Strengthens Lemongrass Farmers Through Interactive CIG Session and Bank Passbook Handover


Beneficiaries discuss collective livelihood development, financial transparency, and future plans for sustainable lemongrass cultivation
An interactive session with lemongrass cultivation beneficiaries was successfully organized on 6th June 2026 at NBIRT, ARKANEER under the framework of the Commodity Interest Groups (CIGs) namely Sugandhi and Subhashini. The programme aimed to strengthen community participation, encourage collective livelihood development, and enhance coordination among beneficiaries associated with lemongrass cultivation activities.
The session also featured the formal handover of bank passbooks of two Commodity Interest Groups to their respective President and Treasurer to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective financial management within the groups.
During the programme, discussions were held on livelihood enhancement opportunities through lemongrass cultivation, proper maintenance of group records, responsible utilization of funds, and future planning for strengthening lemongrass production and income generation.
The session began with a welcome address highlighting the significance of community-based livelihood initiatives and the important role of Commodity Interest Groups in empowering farmers and beneficiaries. Participants actively engaged in the interaction and shared their experiences, challenges, and expectations related to lemongrass cultivation and group activities.
Key issues discussed during the session included the importance of group-based farming and collective marketing, maintaining transparency in financial transactions, and ensuring proper record keeping of all group activities. Beneficiaries also expressed their willingness to work collectively for the sustainability and growth of the groups. Special emphasis was given on the replantation of damaged lemongrass fields to strengthen future production.
As part of the programme, the bank passbooks were formally handed over in the presence of beneficiaries and officials. NBIRT advised the office bearers to maintain transparency and responsibility while handling group funds and financial transactions. The President and Treasurer of the respective CIGs acknowledged their responsibilities and assured proper maintenance of accounts and records for the benefit of all members.
The interactive session concluded successfully with a vote of thanks, encouraging all beneficiaries to actively participate in future activities and continue working together for the success and sustainability of the CIG initiatives.
