SIDBI-Sponsored 5-Day Entrepreneurship Development Programme on Pastry and Cake Making Begins at NBIRT, Tripura

The NB Institute for Rural Technology (NBIRT), Arkaneer, Sekerkote, Sepahijala District, Tripura (West) inaugurated a 5-Day Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) on "Pastry and Cake Making" under the Micro Enterprise Promotion Programme (MEPP). Sponsored by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), the programme aims to promote entrepreneurship, skill development, and self-employment among rural women.

The training programme, being conducted from 15th July to 24th July, 2026, commenced with a ceremonial cake-cutting, marking the beginning of an intensive hands-on learning experience designed to equip participants with practical baking skills and entrepreneurial knowledge.

The inaugural session was graced by Mr. Sanjib Deb, Chief Editor of Northeast Colours, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his address, he highlighted the growing importance of skill-based entrepreneurship in empowering rural youth, particularly women, to achieve economic self-reliance. He commended the collaborative efforts of SIDBI and NBIRT in creating sustainable livelihood opportunities and strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem in rural Tripura.

Among the distinguished guests present were Mrs. Ruma Das, Gram Pradhan of Madhya Laxmibill Panchayat; Mr. Mohit Lal Acharjee, Senior Member, NBIRT; Er. P.L. Ghosh, Technical Advisor, NBIRT; and Ms. Debasree Das, Master Trainer in Cake and Pastry Making.

Addressing the participants, Mrs. Ruma Das appreciated the initiative undertaken by NBIRT and SIDBI to empower rural women through skill development and livelihood generation. She expressed confidence that such programmes would significantly contribute to women's economic independence and social empowerment.

Mr. Mohit Lal Acharjee elaborated on the objectives of the Micro Enterprise Promotion Programme, emphasizing that practical skill development can be transformed into sustainable micro-enterprises, creating employment opportunities and improving the socio-economic condition of rural families.

The technical training sessions are being conducted by Ms. Debasree Das, who encouraged participants to build confidence, strengthen their practical skills, and utilize the training to establish successful home-based or commercial bakery enterprises.

A total of 30 aspiring women entrepreneurs from various parts of Sepahijala District are participating in the programme. Their enthusiastic response reflects the growing interest among rural women in entrepreneurship as a pathway to financial independence and sustainable livelihoods.

Upon successful completion of the programme, participants will receive certificates and continued guidance to help them establish their own micro-enterprises, contributing to local employment generation and rural economic development.

The programme reflects NBIRT's continued commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial talent, promoting self-employment, and fostering innovation among rural women, thereby supporting the inclusive socio-economic development of Tripura.

The inaugural ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Er. P.L. Ghosh, Technical Advisor, NBIRT, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, distinguished guests, SIDBI, the organizing team, the trainer, and all participants for their support in making the inaugural event a success.
