Vice Chancellor of Tripura University Visits NBIRT Arkaneer to Explore Collaborative Projects

Delegation Tours Lemongrass Cultivation and Arka Gurukul, Expressing Appreciation for NBIRT’s Rural Development Initiatives

On 15 November 2025, Prof. Syamal Das, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (In-Charge) of Tripura University, accompanied by his esteemed team, including Dr. Deepak Sharma, Hon’ble Registrar, and Prof. (Dr.) Shaon Ray Choudhury, Head of the Department of Microbiology, paid a visit to NBIRT Arkaneer. The visit aimed to explore NBIRT’s diverse functions, innovative projects, and contributions to rural development.

The delegation began their tour by visiting the lemongrass cultivation field, developed under the DST-SEED Division project of the Govt. of India. They were then guided to the lemongrass oil extraction centre, where a demonstration of the oil extraction process was conducted. Er. P.L. Ghosh, Technical Advisor at NBIRT and a leading expert in solar technology, explained the centre’s solar-powered operations in detail, showcasing how NBIRT is integrating renewable energy with agricultural initiatives. The delegation was also accompanied by Mr. Mohit Lal Acharjee, Honorary Treasurer of NBIRT, who provided valuable insights during the visit.

Following this, the team visited Arka Gurukul, NBIRT’s educational centre for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The delegates interacted with the students, expressing admiration for their confidence, academic pursuits, and enthusiasm for extracurricular activities.

The visit culminated in an interactive session at NBIRT’s conference hall, where the delegation discussed ongoing skill development programs, training initiatives, and other impactful projects led by NBIRT. The discussions highlighted NBIRT’s significant role in technological innovation and the empowerment of rural communities through sustainable initiatives.

In recognition of NBIRT’s efforts, Prof. Syamal Das shared his positive feedback, praising the institute for its dedication to rural development and women’s empowerment. His remarks included:

"Today I visited this Institute and I felt very good here. All the activists of the Institute are very cordial and well-behaved in interacting with us. It is great to see that the Institute is relentlessly working hard for women empowerment. The ongoing projects related to lemongrass cultivation, oil extraction, and the export of oil are commendable. The products are sold at reasonable prices, contributing to local self-reliance and self-employment. This initiative is helping make ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ a reality. I am pleased to see the efforts of NBIRT in promoting self-sufficiency, especially through the use of local materials for products like bamboo articles, jewellery, and home décor. The educational initiative, ‘Arka Gurukul,’ is also impressive, and the children I met there are very talented. I wish them all a bright future. I wish NBIRT even greater success in its future endeavors.”

The visit concluded with a note of appreciation and best wishes from the Tripura University team for NBIRT’s future initiatives and contributions to the socio-economic development of rural Tripura.
